Subspecies limits and hidden Wolbachia diversity in Actinote pellenea butterflies

چکیده
Actinote pellenea is the most widespread species within genus (Lepidoptera: Nymphalidae: Heliconiinae: Acraeini). The has several generations per year (multivoltine) and also diversified, with 18 formally recognized subspecies, of them morphologically distinct geographically segregated. In present study we investigated lineage limits 12 subspecies A. using sequences one mitochondrial (COI) nuclear gene (EF-1 α) to test if nominal geographic lineages are recovered as genetically differentiated. We surveyed for presence Wolbachia in all field-collected individuals characterized these bacteria wsp gatB. analysis COI alignment failed recover monophyletic only clade composed diaguita from Tucumán, Argentina coastal Atlantic Forest states São Paulo Bahia, Brazil, was differentiated a separate lineage. found Wolbachia-infection frequency 68%, both males females, propose that endosymbionts may explain why delimit groups. showed first time butterflies have an intermediate prevalence infection. However, aspects this infection still unknown concluded open questions relative interaction between butterflies.

Karyotypic diversity and speciation in Agrodiaetus butterflies.
That chromosomal rearrangements may play an important role in maintaining postzygotic isolation between well-established species is part of the standard theory of speciation. However, little evidence exists on the role of karyotypic change in speciation itself--in the establishment of reproductive barriers between previously interbreeding populations. The large genus Agrodiaetus (Lepidoptera: L...

during the study of butterflies of bangladesh (insecta: lepidoptera) which carried out since june 2014 to march 2016, several expeditions were made by the authors in the different areas of bangladesh and many butterfly species were collected and identified. among them, five species namely, zezius chrysomallus hübner, 1823, rapala tara de niceville, 1988, cethosia biblis fruhstorfer, 1912 and at...
متن کاملphylogeography and genetic diversity of the lesser mouse- eared bat (myotis blythii) in iran
in current study, 63 samples of bat populations collected from differ regions were used for evaluating the geographic variations. twenty cranial and dental characters for traditional morphometric and landmarks method on the ventral, dorsal skull and mandible for geometry morphometric studies were used. statistical analyses of traditional morphometric and geometry morphometric data indicated low...
Unexpected layers of cryptic diversity in wood white Leptidea butterflies.
Uncovering cryptic biodiversity is essential for understanding evolutionary processes and patterns of ecosystem functioning, as well as for nature conservation. As European butterflies are arguably the best-studied group of invertebrates in the world, the discovery of a cryptic species, twenty years ago, within the common wood white Leptidea sinapis was a significant event, and these butterflie...
متن کاملThe population genetics of mimetic diversity in Heliconius butterflies.
Theory predicts strong stabilizing selection on warning patterns within species and convergent evolution among species in Müllerian mimicry systems yet Heliconius butterflies exhibit extreme wing pattern diversity. One potential explanation for the evolution of this diversity is that genetic drift occasionally allows novel warning patterns to reach the frequency threshold at which they gain pro...
